General information about the home

How far is the Degas House from the French Quarter?

It is approximately 11 blocks away.

Can I walk to the French Quarter? And if not ... What mode of transport do I use to get to the neighborhood?

The walk to the French Quarter is very pleasant because Esplanade Avenue is a beautiful boulevard. There is a bus stop in front of the house that goes to the French Quarter. The bus runs approximately every 20 minutes. Axles are available through United Cabs (504-522-9771), our preferred taxi company. It takes about 5 minutes to get to the French Quarter by taxi. Like many other large cities around the world, we encourage our guests to be aware of their surroundings and the potential risks that increase after consuming even the smallest amounts of adult beverages. Therefore, in the interest of safety, we strongly recommend that you do not walk, take the bus, and do not drive after sunset. Please consider using a taxi,

Transportation to and from the airport:

Taxi transportation is available to and from the airport. If you want to use United Cabs (our recommendation), give them a call (504-522-9771) before disembarking, and by the time you claim your bags, your taxi should be waiting for you. Alternative transportation from the airport is available via The Airport Shuttle, with little cost savings, however the shuttle makes many other stops before reaching Degas House.

Do I need a rental car?

If your stay in New Orleans is in the city center, taxis, the bus system, and streetcar lines can easily and inexpensively meet your needs. However, if you plan to travel to Plantation Country or if your travel plans include areas outside of town and you want to be alone (rather than being included in a group tour for a day trip), you may consider renting a car. However, when your night activities are in the city center, we suggest you park your car here at Degas House and take a taxi.

Is parking available?

There is ample parking available along the street on the Degas House side. Additionally, secure, lighted street parking is available in our parking lot less than a block away that can accommodate up to 90 vehicles. This lot is primarily used for events at Degas House and for oversized vehicles. Note: Parking fees in the French Quarter and downtown can be as high as $ 30.00 or more per vehicle.
