Degas’ obsession with women of the ballet is unquestionable. On June 7th, you too can express the elegance of ballerinas with your very own recreation of a Degas dancer at “Bottles and Brushes with Degas”.
Famous for his depictions of dancers, bathers and, even, the women of brothels; it is no secret that Degas possessed a strong affinity and deep appreciation for women. On Tuesday, May 31st, “Bottles and Brushes with Degas” will showcase one of the Impressionist master’s favorite female subjects: the laundress. Similar to his portrayal of ballerinas, [...]
On Tuesday, May 17th, artists and non-artists alike will look to arguably Edgar Degas’ most iconic work, the famed Little Dancer Aged 14 sculpture, as the subject for “Bottles and Brushes with Degas”.

At this Tuesday’s “Bottles and Brushes with Degas” event, we hope to not only keep the mood light, but also help you transfer the creative and beautiful elements of music to canvas.

With Mardi Gras 2011 officially in the books, life in the Big Easy can return to its “so-called” state of normalcy. While many will be honoring Ash Wednesday by abstaining from their favorite indulgences, the rest of us will simply struggle to reintegrate into our daily routines. As the debauchery and wild scenes of the past weekend become distant memories, the spirit of Carnival will remain, for better or worse, with everyone who encountered the pervasive and contagious aura of Mardi Gras.
Whether braving the crowds of Bourbon Street or barricading the front door until the storm passes, there is not a soul in New Orleans that is unaware of the currently ongoing phenomena known as Mardi Gras. In neighborhoods across the city, the semblance of Carnival is obvious. From the bead-covered tree branches to the dancing [...]

To those who made it out to last night’s show, the Degas House and SAND Collective would like to express our immeasurable appreciation for your support. For our first event, it was flattering to see how many supporters made it out, despite Mother Nature’s unwillingness to cooperate. All of us involved were also pleasantly surprised when we discovered that we had been “Hot Picked” by a NewOrleans.com entertainment writer. Read the article here!
The following article appeared in the December 2010 issue of Offbeat Magazine. The piece’s focus is on a handful of recent University of New Orleans graduates that are leaving their imprint on the local music scene by each creating a sound that is raw, artistic, and fresh, while still paying homage the city’s longstanding jazz and funk heritage. Together, their musical influence has developed into a contagious movement, captivating old fans and luring new listeners.

Degas was once quoted as saying “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” At the Degas House, we completely agree, but we also believe it is important to share what you have seen with others. This why we are proud to announce our newest merchandise items: original cast paper sculptures of the Degas’ world famous little dancer.

Wow, last weekend was an unforgettable way to cap off the beautiful month of October. The weekend [...]

Degas had a style that was clearly distinct from what many of us think of as Impressionist art today. One thing that distinguished Degas from other impressionist artists was his upbringing in France’s high society as the son of the wealthy banker Auguste De Gas and his early interest in photography.
Halloween is only a few weeks away and music junkies know what that means. The Voodoo Music Festival is just around the corner! Attending Voodoo and need a place to stay? The Degas House is your ideal destination for Halloween weekend.
